New Moo Luxe Business Cards

Being a graphic designer I was very excited to hear about Moo.com offering a 600gsm (32pt) weight business card, because there’s nothing better than a thick, high quality business card and with the standards of 350/400gsm feeling like they are getting thinner and thinner over the years I was desperate to get my hands on some of these “Moo Luxe” cards.

I then had to create myself a new business card design and of course I had the option to have 50 different designs for the backs – I settled with just 4 designs though otherwise I would have been designing all week for myself. I chose a selection of solid colours so I could look at the quality and strength of the digital print and see which colours work the best and what the ink coverage was like. The fine details bled slightly and the black did not appear to be quite 100% but it was not far from it. Overall I was pleased with the colours, also the CMYK make up of the “KEA Green” was superb and vibrant.

Quadplex Layers

The business cards are made up of 4 compressed layers of super fine Mohawk paper using a technology unique to Moo called Quadplex, this allows you to choose a colour to run through the seam of your cards. Unfortunately there are currently limited colour options; White, Black, Blue or Red.

I chose black as I felt this was the most suited to my design without picking white, where’s the fun in that?

Magnetic Closure Box and Ribbon with Brand Stamp

When they arrived I was not disappointed. The presentation was fantastic. The Luxe cards arrived in a magnetic closure presentation box hugged securely in a purple ribbon with a plastic stamp showing the Moo droplet brand emblem within, cleverly made to look like a wax stamp seal.

Stunning Matt Texture

All in all a fantastic card for the price, fantastic digital print reproduction and a stunning Matt textured finish and if you only want a low quantity it is ideal. We mustn’t forget the possibility of showing a portfolio of images over the backs of your 50 cards too. As always if you want thousands this is not the route to go as digital print is costly if you want high quantities, I do know of Litho printers that can produce 1,000 cards for about the same price as 150 of these Luxe cards but they aren’t quite as unique or special. I think I will still be getting myself some Litho printed business cards and I will possibly be saving these Luxe cards for special occasions – I would say these really aren’t the kind of cards you hand out a few at a time.

For an honest review I will add that with the first batch I received was not quite finished 100% perfect. (I have used them in the photos for this post so you may be able to spot the issue). They were 2-3mm offset to one side on both the front and rear despite my submitted artwork following their guide to a T. This issue was soon resolved after a quick email and a photo to the Moo customer support team to show my point, they spotted the issue and are currently re-printing them free of charge for me.
